Nigeria's 13th Democracy Celebration: Which way Nigeria?

Job hub | 8:39 AM | | Best Blogger Tips
Which way Nigeria? Which way to go?
On what part are we headed?
Shall we succeed or fail?
Decisions of our today will tell what our tomorrow will be
What will it take to revamp our power sector?
How expensive is it to start projects and effectively monitor and ensure their completion?
Can't maintenance agreements be incorporated into contract terms for our road projects?
And Whatever happened to rail and water transportation?
Does the high cost of food items in certain areas have something to do with our capacity to distribute? which in turn poses the question as to how adequate our transport system is.

Why is it that farmers in Benue State that commendably produce more food than their local market can consume are yet facing challenges of how to move these goods to ready markets?
How good is the existing road network in Nigeria? Have you been along the road to Isanlu, Kaba(Kogi state) and onwards to Otukpo, makurdi and forth? What of the road from Anyingba to Okene?
Why does it seem that some roads are simply forgotten? Even when they are the only access into and out of these areas?

Is Nigeria self-sufficient or deficient? You may be quick to say that obviously we are blessed with more than enough resources but honestly the way we are faring doesn't reflect that in the least.
Do we have enough to succeed or is our present siuation the best we can do with what we have at our disposal?
Why is it that our systems lack feedback mechanisms to double check and take into account how proposed projects are going and for sighting the percentage of what is achieved?
If every Ministry, contractor, Organisation(s), person(s) or group of persons given a national duty is made accountable to Nigeria(I mean the masses) with the percentage of what is accomplished being sighted at the end of the stipulated time frame and assessed, would the implementation of proposed projects improve?

For how long shall we haphazardly allow multinationals through our doors to rob us ofjobs in Nigeria without a laid down plan on how to leverage on their knowledge and technology. In this we exploit ourselves. International trade and business ties should be a trade by barter not a one way double exploitation. I say a one way double because I see it as a case of we exploiting ourselves; so why expecting the incoming multinationals to do any less?
China did not open its doors to the world without a well setup game plan. China leveraged on the know-how of multinationals and are now well the fastest growing world economy.

In terms of governance, India and Nigeria has a lot in common. But despite this India is poised to better its lot; by the hardwork of entrepreneural Indians, she is the world's second fastest growing economy.
If only we can forgo the Oil sector revenue for once; forget seeking ready made jobs on graduation and put on our entrepreneural thinking cap.

Today, it's our 13th democracy celebration. Thirteen years of democracy at a stretch.
In many ways, one can say we have achieved a lot, but I believe it can be better.
If part of our records as the most populous black nation, one of the most religious and happiest people still says we are one of the most corrupt nations of the world, then we need a change.

What can we do to change this? Yes we can change this.
Because I refuse to believe that the average Nigerian is inherently corrupt. And because I believe choosing to value integrity above criminality is a decision every man must make for himself. We have to reconsider our values. A change of mindset. The realisation that there is no corrupt government elsewhere responsible than me and you.
Then will no student bill his/her parents higher than the fees due at the school bursary, an employee not "doctor" the records of his organisation to siphon funds, a voter not sell his vote but exercise his franchise wisely knowing how it impacts the future. Then will a duly elected public office holder appropriate funds for the growth and advancement of the electorate knowing the trust with which the position was bestowed.
Then will projects see completion and those to monitor the accomplishment of all such projects not compromised. Then will our educational system churn-out a work force qualified both in academics and in character.
With it will come a steady decline in robbery, thuggery and other vices of unemployment while Job creation and self employment will thrive.
Happy Democracy Celebration!

JAMB UTME 2012 Admission Cut – Off Points Have been Released

by JOBHUB NIGERIA
in Academic Blog
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) has released the 2012 Unified Tertiary matriculation
Examination (UTME) national cut-off mark, to kick-start
admission processes into universities and other tertiary
institutions in the country.

The national cut-off mark for admissions to universities in
Nigeria for 2012/2013 academic session was fixed at 180,
while the board set 160 as the cut-off mark for admissions
into polytechnics, colleges of education and other diploma-
awarding institutions.

The cut-off points were decided in Abuja, on Monday, at the
2012 combined policy committee meeting on admissions to
degree-awarding institutions, National Diploma (ND), Nigeria
Certificate in Education (NCE) and National Innovation
Diploma-awarding institutions.

Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i,
who chaired the meeting, urged the various institutions to
adhere strictly to admission guidelines, which stipulated a
70:30 ratio for technology and non-technology for ND
programmes and 60:40 science/arts ratio for the
universities and colleges of education.

She also told them to observe the admission criteria of
merit, catchment area and educationally less developed
states in the Federal Government’s guidelines.
While commending JAMB for prompt release of the UTME
results, the minister urged all the tertiary institutions in the
country to establish e-testing centres, where the next
UTME could be conducted.

Meanwhile, the Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB,
Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde, speaking on the occasion, warned
private universities in the country against conduct of illegal
admissions of students.
